TIME OUT NEW YORK (TONY) makes the best visual use of magazine space that i've ever seen, and this was true even back in the day when there was only TIME OUT LONDON! the mag has a very readable font and layout; the articles are wisely only one page long; the entire mag is organized in a way that you can intuitively and quickly find what you're looking for; and even the captions on the stand-alone photos are informative! that takes vision and balls. plus, the tone is irreverent and young, yet not naive, and in that voice all the important cultural genres are covered in an expert, cutting-edge way. how do they do it?? i dunno, but that's why TONY is the only new york guide i read! years ago, i used to read NEW YORK magazine, but it is a snooze... dull and boring in the opposite of all the above ways. but that's another review, huh?
